The Architecture Society (TAS) is the official student body representing the interests of all Architecture students at the National University of Singapore. The TAS Executive Committee is formed by students from Year 1 to Year 4.

TAS is the main point of contact between the student body and the school administration, facilitating student feedback. TAS also facilitates communication between the students, the industry and the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), helping in administering SIA student membership and other initiatives.

The mission of TAS is to promote architectural education and practice relevant to the needs of society. We also aim to promote and safeguard the interests of NUS Architecture students, while fostering links to the local and global Architecture industry so as to establish a better dialogue with local, regional and international architectural institutions.

OUR COMMITTEES

TAS is student run, and initiatives are generated across the committees.  All NUS Architecture and Landscape Architecture students are automatically admitted as members of the society. Interested students may join a committee to work with other like-minded individuals on projects that develop our Architecture community.

EDUCATION

The TAS Education Committee aspires to sustain an active and supportive educational environment in our architecture community.

The committee hopes to forge a collaborative and transparent educational relationship within our architecture community through active collection of student feedback and concerns which are raised to tutors during our end-of-semester feedback session.

The committee aims to organise initiatives that engage students' interest and discourse on our architecture academia. Current initiatives in the works include the TAS Architecture Book Club, Workshops, Guest Lecture Series, and the annual TAS Debate.

MEMBERS: Desean Chong De Xuan, Wong Yi Xuan, Lim Teng Han, Sean The, Bryan Lee Jia En, Emmanuelle Leong, Jeramie Lim Wen Zi

PUBLICATIONS

The TAS Publications Committee oversees the official TAS website - a one-stop destination showcasing meaningfully curated content alongside TAS initiatives. The revamped website aims to widen students’ appreciation of architecture in relation to arts and design, while connecting with the architecture industry and the student body.

In 2021, TAS Publications is also proud to launch the ‘Get To Know Your -’ video series. Marking our first foray into videography, the video series aims to share important narratives in architecture discourse through a series of insightful and exciting interviews with selected professors, stakeholders and architects in Singapore.

Cataloguing all of TAS initiatives, TAS Publication also leads the design of the annual TAS Yearbook, a proud record of the Society’s work over the year.

MEMBERS: Zhang Shijie, Emma Yeo Ya Lin, Grace Yuan Zi Xin, Ashley Khoo Li-Ann, Zhou Yang, Vernice Chung

PUBLICITY

The TAS Publicity Committee manages the media platforms of TAS, such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. We prepare publicity materials, promote and document TAS Initiatives on these platforms for outreach to prospective students, the public, and our industry partners. We also act as the main line of communication between the society and the students with our telegram channel, @TeleTAS.

We share our students' works on @nusstudios. Both existing and prospective students, as well as the public, can discover the diversity of their projects across the years, each with its own beauty and unique qualities.

This year, we attempt to push for greater student involvement within the architecture community, with events such as the #JUST4LOLS competition, and the introduction of the telegram TASticker Pack.

MEMBERS: Shiu Jerome Millian, Beverly Su Yu Ning, Lim En Qi Nicole, Wang Jiun Mei (Maggie), Kang Shiqiang, Matz Goh Ee En, Chooi En Yu

WELFARE

The TAS Welfare Committee looks out for students’ well-being, providing various pick-me-ups to support them through their Architecture journey. It is vital to us that students have a platform to forge meaningful friendships outside of their academic life, enjoying a more enriching and wholesome experience where they can bond and learn from one another.

We aim to ensure students feel a sense of belonging in this community, through means such as the development of our new “Senior-Junior Linkage” initiative, as well as with our iconic “ARCH” shirts designed by students, for students. Our sought-after welfare packs are also distributed every semester, a perfect way to boost morale.

This academic year, we will also be launching our very own TAS Merch store, featuring artisanal, one-of-a-kind products that further enhance our identity as Architecture students.

MEMBERS: Shiu Jerome Millian, Jeramie Lim Wen Zi, Johnathan Na Yong Teck, Sebastian Ng Yan Lin, Juliana Marie Jumig Masiclat, Ruth Chew En-Li, Yeo zhen hao, Yap xi yi

EXHIBITIONS

The TAS Exhibitions Committee manages ArchiVal, an exhibition showcasing various students' works throughout different years of study.

ArchiVal is an annual, department wide event which aims to highlight and broadcast students’ works, while acting as a connection point between the school, the architecture industry and the public in celebrating the diversity of approaches in architecture education. The event features a series of exhibitions and programmes aimed at bridging the understanding and appreciation of the intricacies of our students’ works, while at the same time, to garner interest in architecture as a field of study and practice. The works showcased include B.Arch, M.Arch, BLA, and MLA design studio works, alongside several from various core modules.

EVENTS

TAS Events is committed to engaging the student body with activities that are both related and non-related to its academia.

On a larger scale, TAS events aims to launch a student-led pop-up event. Students with a side business are given the opportunity for the sale of their own merchandise and products, while concurrently bringing publicity to TAS and the student entrepreneurs.

Our keystone event, the Architecture-Landscape (AKILA) Freshmen Orientation Programme, is an annual event held for new undergraduates to gain a better insight of DOA & CDE and achieve a sense of belonging. Friendships between freshmen and seniors are forged during this period as they bond over a series of activities. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, orientation has been conducted from the comfort of your homes.

In giving back to the student body, we also organise a back to school event annually. Also known as black party, it is a chill event helping students reliving the next semester’s blues!
